It is a big joke. The comic allegation that Modi gave away Rs.30,000 crore to Anil Ambani has no basis. The details of the Offset arrangement are not yet out. However, Dassault Aviation CEO has confirmed in an interview that only around Rs.800 crore investment will be made in the JV with Anil Ambani group. That is only around 3% of the total offset amount! As per media reports Rs. 9000 crore are expected to be invested in the Kaveri project of DRDO, which relates to designing of the Tejas engine. The objective of setting up HAL was not job creation. The main objective is that India should achieve self-reliance in fighter aircraft production. Has HAL achieved it? The Defence Minister in an interview with Times Now told that cost of HAL produced Sukhoi jets is 45% higher than the imported Russian version! Time and cost escalation is a normal feature in HAL’s operations. Union politics, inability to absorb higher technology has resulted in cost inefficiency and production delays. Consequently, the Indian Air Force has suffered. Rahul Gandhi is not worried about this!
