Kolkata’s positivity rate has hit 38.37%, one of the highest in the country. On 3 January, West Bengal reported 6,078 new Covid-19 cases, of which 2,801 were in Kolkata alone.
The active cases have declined to 4,30,422 and comprise 1.39% of the total infections, while the national Covid recovery rate stands at 97.28%, the health ministry data showed.
The Covid death toll rose to 3,99,459 with 1,005 fresh fatalities, while the national recovery rate improved to 96.97% according to health ministry data released Thursday.
According to the govt, out of estimated 59.7 crore people in the age group of 18-44 years, about 15% have also been vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine.
The Union health ministry also said that while Covid testing has increased manifold, a steady decline in weekly positivity rate has been seen since the last three weeks.
In a statement on Saturday, Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said that Mumbai had recorded a positivity rate of 35 to 36 per cent in the first month of the viral outbreak.
