The glaring reality of modern times is that killing of animals is still not seen as unnecessary violence on their bodies, neither morally nor legally. It is always garbed under the disguise of “SACRIFICE”, as this article very conveniently did.
What right does a human have to unnecessary murder an innocent animal and call it “SACRIFICE” when it is very convenient in this day and age to live an animal products free lifestyle – be it whole grain plants-based food or animal fabric free clothes.
It is not very difficult to see through the cow politics done by a political party, but the sad thing is that those who stand against this cow vigilantism to protect India’s secular fabric have also never shown a tint of compassion for the violence against animals.
It should be a common responsibility of all people regardless of religion or caste to campaign against majoritarian imposition on minorities, but at the same time have to work towards eliminating unnecessary violence on animals in the name of “Right to Food” and “Cultural/Religious Freedom” – because animals are not food, but fellow sentient beings and secular democracy is not an excuse for humans to inflict unnecessary suffering on innocent animals.

I wonder why cows are important in Hinduism. Ganesh’s vehicle is a mouse, but we don’t se anybody fretting about killing mice. What religious text then makes the cow so much more potent in its ability to cause violence among men?

Modi is the problem. His Hindi-Hindutva and Islamophobia ideology has been loud and clear.
