For Indians stoically used to multiple phases of polling — three in just the ongoing Bihar assembly election – the spectre of delay in the world’s oldest democracy seems baffling.
Election Commission has begun work to change a range of poll laws to make them relevant to political landscape, check abuse of money power and ensure level playing field.

By turning a blind eye to the snakes in his own backyard, Trudeau is setting the stage for a disaster of epic proportions for his country, his people, and the world at large.
In Episode 1544 of CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at some top economists pointing to the pitfalls of ‘currency nationalism’ with data from 1991 to 2004.
Using this technology, IDF carried out fully robotic combat missions, drastically reducing risk to Israeli troops. The robotic combat task force also enhanced situational awareness.
While we talk much about our military, we don’t put our national wallet where our mouth is. Nobody is saying we should double our defence spending, but current declining trend must be reversed.
For the past several presidential elections, the winner has been declared the same night. You seem to fail to understand the unique situation this year. Because of the virus, mail-in ballots were preferred by many people, substantially larger than ever before; and the races are very tight. Mail in ballots take a longer time to process and since accuracy is desired in tight races, all votes need to be counted before a race is called. I don’t think mail-in ballots are allowed (except, perhaps for the armed forces) in India and the races are never so tight. Thus it is unfair to compare the efficiency of the elections in India to the US, taking only this year as an example, when elections have been conducted over a much vaster area, always in 1 day, whereas even with EVMs one state takes 3 days in India.
The US faced such issues even in the 2000 Presidential Elections between George W Bush of the Republican Party and Al Gore of the Democratic Party. It took days to know a winner! The person who lost(Al Gore) actually went to court but eventually Bush won it! The US faces such issues when elections are close but here in India ECI is independent and very powerful unlike the Federal Election Commission in the US. India can actually take credit for conducting elections for the largest democracy.
Note: Mail-in ballots or postal ballots as it is called here in India is used only by government employees on election duty and others are asked to vote at the allotted polling station equipped with EVM and VVPT. In India, it is a rule that the polling station should be within 2km from the residence. Bihar has used social distancing, sanitizers, etc to conduct elections safely during these hard times whereas, the many US States asked their citizens to use mail-in ballots and reduced polling stations.
In a screwed up system of elections and counting India should market the EVM system and take contract of conducting elections in countries of the world with firm clear results in 2 days. if we can sell it it could be a great foreign exchange respect earner.
Nobody has has this kind of capacity which has been put to all kind of tests.
Of course, the USA should have followed the Indian system and held polling in 20 phases spread over 3 months. Every fool, starting with Shekhar Gupta, has a view, and writes for The Print.
You’re wrong about blaming only the Southern states for not giving voting rights to black people in the 18th and 19th century because Northern states denied voting rights to black people even after the Civil War also.

OP is too patriotic to understand that 😉
