Nick Jonas is not trying to modernise the mangalsutra, but his gesture shows that choices can be equal. If commitment must be flaunted, it need not be gendered.
Will he make a joke about the Muslim community in India or abroad? My comment about the goats multiplying and taking over the earth in the Youtube video section of the Print was deleted. It is based on the Biblical and Quranic interpretation that God made man to rule over all other life forms for material benefits. So, man can treat them as material goods to be traded. This materialistic interpretation has devastated the world ecology and environment. Jains on the other hand respect all living things. Left to itself, a tree can live for more than hundred years and possibly for thousands of years which a human being can only dream of. Jains do not proselytize and attempt to convert others to their religion like Christians and Muslims by their actions. I am not a Jain. I am only an admirer of their high regard for all living things. (Please do not delete this comment)
In this incidence, his target wasn’t politicians, billionaires, celebrities or specific individuals. That would’ve been understandable. But he targeted an entire religious community. The most pacifistic, non-violent community at that. He mocked them for their clearly moral act of saving animals.. moral by every yardstick. I don’t think Indian laws permit outraging religious sentiments in this way. Just because he comes from a violent abrahmic cult, he shouldn’t keep offending Indic religions under the garb of comedy. Repeat offender.
He was actually really funny. He pointed out the absurdity of the whole thing. Sadly we live in country where people are so thin skinned and unable to laugh and whose “feelings” ger hurt rather too easily. The same people meanwhile treat their fellow citizens like dirt and their feelings remain intact. The biggest hypocrites are those that follow some religious faith or the other.
He would have been looking over his shoulder to keep his head, if it were a different religion this joke was about.. Would love to see the reaction from all the “so called Liberal” publications them.
this so called leftist/humanist masquerading as “comedian” was targeting hindus in passive aggresively ( through so called demeaning jokes) manner . And the author is giving cover to the “comedian” so that he can play victimhood card.
