Several unanswered questions remain as the Congress-JD(S) coalition government takes oath, including whether the grand old party is ready to play second fiddle at the national stage.
Nineteen states have NDA governments, but the partners have lost their bargaining power because the survival of Modi government does not depend on them.
Modi's decisive victory in 2014 upended one of the main postulates of coalition politics — that each alliance has some 'essential' allies, while others gravitate to the winning side.
This confrontation looks subcontracted—escalation to re-establish Pakistan's indispensability to outside capitals while squeezing Afghanistan back under an old paradigm.
CSE, one of India’s oldest bourses, is edging towards a voluntary exit. It could never recover from market manipulation scam that caused a payment crisis at exchange back in 2001.
Fresh details of operation conducted by IAF, Army have come out in gazette notification giving citations of those who were awarded Vir Chakra for their bravery.
Education, reservations, govt jobs are meant to bring equality and dignity. That we are a long way from that is evident in the shoe thrown at the CJI and the suicide of Haryana IPS officer. The film Homebound has a lesson too.
It was very evident from the beginning that Rahul Gandhi had no intention to take on the role of PM. The task is beyond his skill, capacity and intent. He would rather prefer his undisclosed holidays abroad than do an honest day’s work. This family knows how to milk the legacy, and is a bunch of white collar cheats who would rather enjoy the perks than take on responsibilities. Life is good for Gandhis. Well, let’s wait and watch; even Mughal dynasty came to its end.
That question is easily answered. Barring a couple of entities like the Shiv Sena and the Akali Dal, any regional party would much prefer the Congress to the BJP. It is now for the Congress leadership to rise to the occasion, display magnanimity and statesmanship. It needs to tap the experience of some its veterans.
Very happy to observe that Smt Sonia Gandhi is taking the initiative, reaching out to all the regional parties. There is a fifteen year record of mutual trust and regard. Over the last few months, the Congress has been unable to recreate the emotion that made a decade in power possible for the UPA. Some contentious issues are best left to the numbers to resolve.
It is disingenuous for the Congress to say that the single largest party should “ lead “ – as in PM – the coalition and the government. It would qualify for that honour even with 44 seats. A stable non BJP government requires 300 MPs. Which means the Congress should bring almost 150 MPs to the feast. As would the allies. The facile assumption was that it would be possible to set the egos and ambitions of individual claimants against each other, like crabs in a bucket. That will not happen in 2019. See the spirit of CM Mamata Banerjee, almost Joan of Arc. So the Congress should play by the rules, let its natural desire to see Shri Rahul Gandhi as PM be tempered by how many seats it wins.
