Molarband residents blame Badarpur power plant for dozens of cancer & TB cases. NTPC rejects the complaints, says emission levels are within safe limits.
In Episode 1544 of CutTheClutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta looks at some top economists pointing to the pitfalls of ‘currency nationalism’ with data from 1991 to 2004.
Using this technology, IDF carried out fully robotic combat missions, drastically reducing risk to Israeli troops. The robotic combat task force also enhanced situational awareness.
While we talk much about our military, we don’t put our national wallet where our mouth is. Nobody is saying we should double our defence spending, but current declining trend must be reversed.
WTE plants are not disastrous ,but are the best technological options for treatment/disposal of waste, combustible n carefully segregated.CSE study appears to look into partial issues. Why not CSE study if not done otherwise, cremation grounds n their management in India, located in thickly populated residential/commercial areas with visible toxic emissions endangering the local population n those who have to visit out of necessity the Cremation grounds(examples: Madanpura n opp: Medanta in Gurugram)….
I agree with positive comments by Madhu B , relating to WTE plants which are the best technological options ,if designed n managed properly. The study by CSE n the hype created by NGOs/Environment Groups appear only to dislodge this option of treatment/disposal of segregated combustible waste. The fear complex created against n misguiding the Hon’ble Courts, citing disasters/diseases , maybe justified,if WTE plants are mismanaged.
I suggest ,CSE visit Cremation grounds(operated by city local authorities in India),which are located in the heart of cities surrounded by thickly populated residential/commercial areas(Example:
Madanpura/opp:. MEDANTA in Gurgaon, where the level of Pollution, toxic fumes can only be measured by hundreds of people who visit Cremation grounds out of necessity every day ? ……

The idea of WTE is well.
Here it is one must know that power produced from WTE is costlier.
I mailed one message two years back that’s 21st November,2018 to SRI Kejriwal how the garbage be utilised.
It is simple. If you erect one boiler in every colony consisting of 100 to 150 houses and utilise garbage for combustion for hot water and same can be supplied to each residents. By doing this one can save power. In cities like Mumbai, Delhi etc. You can save as much as 1.5 lakh power units per day.
Instead of producing ,Saving is much more beneficial.
Here there is no harm for atmosphere. Burning of garbage at early morning is great use for plantation. since smoke come out at that time is carbon dioxide and utilised by the plants.
That means it is not polluting the nature.
Hence it is safe do like that.
Hence I request you to kindly give a chance to explain clearly in person.
Assumption that plants (in plantations) can absorb CO2 produced by burning waste mass early morning is Faulty. The very act of burning waste mass is the problem. Try generating comustible gas by Bio processing. Sweden does it (gas produced runs cars/ taxis/ Buses).
Sir, First of all Waste to energy plants cannot be treated as Business. it is a need for the hour, where the service is done for mother earth by not polluting her.
As far as the plants not working or defunct, it has nothing to do with the part what you have explained. All these non working and defunct plants were built only for a different intention of siphoning the government subsidies and taking out the money.
There are proper technologies and if we go for the right technology these plants will definetly work.
Being a employee in a steam turbine manufacturing company where we have supplied so many turbines all over the world for WTE plants are running for many long years.
If we buy the right technology equipment for handling and burning this waste definetly these will work.
Strict rules shall be enacted for monitoring the function, order placement and execution of these project so that these projects do not fail.
People ar unnecessarily degrading this option of WTE plants without properly studying the pros and cons.
We should support this WTE technology for a cleaner earth which will be the future.
There are new and improved technologies for converting unsegregated MSW with no ash or residue.
In India it is very difficult to get the Government authorities to list, check and implement such Plants. It is the need of the hour.
Even waste lying in landfills can be converted into whatever energy is in the mass.
Dear Mr Sharma,
How’s this Tesla’s plasma machine?
With warm regards,
There are processes that can not only convert waste to energy with virtually no emissions but also recover valuable commodities from the waste. They can even convert sewage to energy and produce high quality phosphates suitable for agriculture. The problem is, the big incinerator companies have the money to buy votes.
This is a bit of a chicken egg problem. Until you segregate waste the plants won’t be viable and there will be no segregation of waste unless there is a reason for it. I think its good that they set up some plants but then that will put pressure on the municipal corporations to do the hard work of educating people on waste segregation. It will take some patience but the money that comes to the municipalities either from the government or by the use of these plants should provide enough incentive for that change.
P.S. : I just noticed that there is no quote from the manager or anyone of that Jindal plant. Do we know they are using unsegregated waste or what protocol they follow for dealing with remnants ? Also the technology for segregation has improved but i don’t know if it is economically viable. Anyways, this article should have sought a response from the Jindal folks.
