The Afghanistan Papers refer to a trove of confidential US government documents The Washington Post gained access to following a three-year battle under the Freedom of Information Act.
The 2,000-page document includes interviews conducted by government-appointed interviewers who spoke to Army generals, diplomats, aid workers as well as Afghan government officials. All point to one fact — that America hid the fact that the war in Afghanistan had become “unwinnable”.
Saw a video clip, put out by Russia Today, where Mike Pompeo is saying, smilingly, I was CIA Director. We lied, we cheated, we stole. May have meant for a theatre other than Afghanistan. On a shrunken scale, but lots of unaudited funds must be flowing through our disturbed areas as well. Everyone loves a war / insurgency.
