Excise Policy or the Delhi Government Excise policy was introduced in November 2021 by the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government. It aimed at modernizing alcohol sales in the city by allowing the setting up of a large number of private retail stores selling alcohol.
Within a year of the introduction of the policy, discrepancies were reported. Delhi’s Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar reported a breach in the policy to Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena, who then requested a CBI inquiry. It was alleged that the policy had loopholes that allowed for violations such as preferential treatment, discounts, license fee waivers, and relief during pandemic disruptions in exchange for kickbacks to the AAP politicians. The ED has arrested several AAP leaders, including Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia.
Every party is guilty. So we should forgive them all.
Every man is a cheat. After all he has a family to feed. So ……
How else does any political party finance its continuing activities, which see an enormous spurt during elections. It needs both sorts of money. In terms of perception, the public will draw its own inferences and conclusions. There is also need for the higher judiciary to see the big picture, because all these cases, of action and inaction, ultimately come before it. Sometimes for something as basic as grant of bail, which ought to be the almost unvarying rule, since these are not heinous crimes.
Forget about politicians, even so called journalists have been exposed to be corrupt. Some were caught acting as power pimps. What happened to them? They are still seen in their well tailored suits, pontificating. Why should people believe anyone/anything?
