Ranchi, Oct 25 (PTI) Teenaged left-arm spinner Aman Chaudhary will be making his first-class debut when Delhi take on a depleted Jharkhand in a third round Group C fixture of the Ranji Trophy starting here on Monday.

Bowling has been an issue with Delhi for the past few seasons. Head coach Vijay Dahiya and selectors are hoping the 18-year-old Aman provides the x-factor they have been looking for in the bowling department.

Aman has played for Delhi in the Cooch Behar Trophy.

It was his consistent performance at the senior team nets and good show during match simulations that prompted Dahiya to pick him in the playing eleven against a Jharkhand side that will miss regular skipper Ishan Kishan, Kumar Kushagra and Shikhar Mohan.

While Kishan and Kushagra are with the white ball team in New Zealand, the stylish southpaw Shikhar has also been summoned for the India A leg of the tour.

“We have keenly followed Aman in the nets and he looks like a good prospect. He is a good left-arm spinner. It is expected that Delhi will play with three specialist spinners including Aman, off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen and other left-arm spin bowling all-rounder Sumit Mathur.

“Also skipper Ayush Badoni’s off-breaks are there to fall back on,” a senior member of team management told PTI on the eve of the game.

Delhi will miss the services of veteran pacer Navdeep Saini, who will miss the game with a hamstring niggle. While Aman will be playing in place of Money Grewal or Divij Mehra, Saini in all likelihood will be replaced by Simarjeet Singh.

In the last game at Palam, Delhi put up one of their more dominant batting show with India A white ball opener Priyansh Arya scoring a fabulous 199. Skipper Ayush Badoni showed his class with a double hundred in a mammoth first innings total.

But the bowlers huffed and puffed their way, dismissing Gujarat just once as Delhi managed only three points. PTI KHS BS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
