(Reuters) – The New Saints completed their unbeaten season in the Cymru Premier League on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over rivals Connah’s Quay Nomads.
The 16-time league champions — and self-named “Invincibles” — finished with 30 wins and two draws in what was formerly known as the Welsh Premier League.
“It’s a huge achievement, not simply going unbeaten, but the manner in which we’ve done so by winning so many games,” head coach Craig Harrison said. “Thirty wins and just two draws is a fantastic achievement, and the players should be very, very proud of themselves.
“When everything quietens down and the dust settles, I think it’ll be looked at as a really really top achievement by a top group of players and staff.”
They have not lost at their Park Hall home in more than two years, and are unbeaten in 54 games in all Welsh domestic matches home or away.
“It’s an incredible achievement,” said Brad Young, who scored 29 goals in all competitions this season. “It’s great to have gone unbeaten but we need to get the job done next week in the Welsh Cup final before focusing on making more history in Europe this summer.”
The New Saints, who are on course for a domestic treble, clash with Connah’s Quay Nomads again next Sunday in the Welsh Cup final.
