New Delhi: The International Hockey Federation (FIH) has named legendary goalkeeper P.R. Sreejesh and Chile’s flicker Camila Caram as the co-chairs of the FIH Athletes Committee.

The FIH Athletes Committee is a consultative body that provides recommendations to the FIH Executive Board and other bodies. The committee also plays a key role in developing and promoting resources and initiatives for athletes. “Athletes have always been at the centre of all sporting endeavours of the FIH,” FIH President Tayyab Ikram said in a statement.

“When FIH launched its new ‘Empowerment and Engagement’ strategy, the ‘athletes first’ approach was enshrined in its core, further showcasing our commitment towards the welfare and well-being of hockey players worldwide.”

The new FIH Athletes Committee will help in the implementation of the FIH’s ‘Empowerment and Engagement’ strategy, which focuses on empowering the athletes and promoting their well-being. “The Athletes Committee will play a crucial role in the execution of this vision, and I welcome all our hockey athletes that have been appointed to the committee,” Ikram added.Sreejesh said: “Being part of the athletic committee itself is a great honour for me. Getting in as the co-chair is an added responsibility. I am looking forward to working with Camila, and all the athletic committee members to make hockey better for players everywhere.”
