New Delhi: The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and interior minister Mohsin Naqvi has not been invited to the IPL final in Ahmedabad and will attend the ICC Annual Board Meeting, scheduled to be held on the sideline of the tournament in the Gujarat capital, virtually, PTI reported Saturday.
The news agency quoted sources as saying that Naqvi will attend the ICC Board of Directors meeting through video conferencing.
The report comes after a PCB spokesperson told Arab News that ICC had invited Naqvi to attend the meeting and the IPL final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 30 and 31 May.
The spokesperson added that Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would take a call on whether Naqvi should travel to India.
“The decision on whether the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board will travel or not travel to Ahmedabad to attend the ICC meeting will be made by the PCB’s patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
ThePrint has reached out to ICC for comment on the remarks. The report will be updated if and when a response is received.
Ties between the two countries have been strained, particularly since the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir last year, which prompted New Delhi to launch the military campaign Operation Sindoor.
India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series since 2008, with encounters since confined to tournaments organised by the ICC or the Asian Cricket Council.
During preparations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, India declined to send its team to Pakistan, prompting the adoption of a hybrid model that shifted India-Pakistan matches to neutral grounds. Relations deteriorated further in September 2025 when the Indian team refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi following their victory in the final; Naqvi left the venue with the trophy.
