Chennai, Apr 4 (PTI) Defending champions Punjab outclassed Kerala 98-50 for their second straight win in the men’s Group A match of the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship following its 105-69 victory over Gujarat in the preliminary round here on Monday.

Amritpal Pal (29 points) and Amjyot Singh (26) were in good nick as Punjab made short work of their opponents.

Host Tamil Nadu, one of the contenders for the title, got their second win, beating Mizoram 90-50 in Group C while in a Group B game, Services defeated Rajasthan 100-73.

In the women’s event, favourites India Railways cruised past Maharashtra 83-39 while the home team (Tamil Nadu) bounced back after a loss on the opening day, to beat Delhi 62-55.

RESULTS — Men’s Group A: Punjab 98 (Amritpal Singh 29, Amjyot Singh 26) beat Kerala 50 (Antony Johnson 14, Pranav Prince 13).

Group C: Tamil Nadu 90 (B Soorya 22, M Lokeshwaran 15) beat Mizoram 50 (Lalrina Renthlei 14).

Group B: Services 100 (Nikhil Kumar 29, Ajay Singh 20, Gaurav Chandel 19) beat Rajasthan 73 (Rajveer Singh 13, Tushar Vijay 11). Karnataka 86 (Arvind 20, Anil Kumar 18) beat Uttar Pradesh 56 (Harsh Dugar 13).

Group D: Indian Railways 81 (Rakesh 20, Palpreet Singh 19) beat Haryana 70 (Abhishek K 25, Sunil Rathee 15). Madhya Pradesh 67 (Deepak Chaudhary 22) beat West Bengal 63 (Arshdeep Singh 18, John Patrick 17).

Women’s Group A: Tamil Nadu 62 (S Rajeshwary 24) beat Delhi 55 (Rashpreet Sidhui 18, Namratha 13). Indian Railways 83 (Poonam Chaturvedi 16) beat Maharashtra 39 (Sakshi Pandey 12).

Group B: Kerala 56 (Stephy Nixon 16, Kavitha Jose 12) beat Madhya Pradesh 32 (Nisha Kashyap 13).
