New Delhi: From Sachin Tendulkar to V.V.S. Laxman and Nasser Hussain, cricket giants from around the world were left in awe Friday as Indian cricketer Harleen Deol, 23, took a stunning catch Friday in the opening match of the three-part women’s Twenty20 series against England.

While India lost the match, the video of the catch has gone viral.

Tendulkar hailed Deol’s efforts as the “catch of the year” while Laxman called it “as good a catch one will ever see on a cricket field”.

The catch took place in the 19th over of the match when England’s Amy Jones hit Indian bowler Shikha Pandey to the long-off boundary. Deol stretched full-length to grab the bowl and was pushed over the boundary. However, she threw the ball in the air and jumped back onto the field to catch it.

Not only did her team laud her efforts, England’s opening batswoman Danielle Wyatt also appreciated her catch.

Several other cricket personalities also took to Twitter to praise Deol’s catch.

Former Australian cricketer Lisa Sthalekar tweeted: “Take a bow!! Calling it now the best we will see this series!!”

West Indian cricketer Daren Sammy called the catch “simply amazing”.

Deol, an all-rounder who hails from Himachal Pradesh, made her T20 debut in February 2019 against England. She has played a total of 10 matches and has scored 127 runs and taken six wickets.
