Macau, Jun 17 (PTI) Anmol Kharb led the charge in the women’s singles with a straight-game win as three Indian shuttlers progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the Macau Open Super 300 badminton tournament here on Wednesday.
Fresh from a quarterfinal finish at the Denmark Challenge last month, eighth-seeded Anmol looked sharp as she brushed aside Indonesia’s Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari 21-13, 21-16 in just 42 minutes to book her place in the last 16 round.
The 19-year-old world No 51 Indian will next face Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei.
Rakshitha Sree Ramraj, world No 53, also enjoyed a fine outing, defeating Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray 21-16, 24-22 in 46 minutes.
She will meet South Korea’s Kim Min Sun in the pre-quarterfinals.
Seventh seed and world No 49 Shriyanshi Valishetty came through an all-Indian contest against Tasnim Mir, prevailing 21-18, 19-21, 21-15 in a hard-fought 56-minute battle.
Shriyanshi will next take on South Korea’s Kim Min Ji.
However, it was the end of the road for Shreya Lele, who went down 12-21, 15-21 to fourth seed Han Qian Xi of China in 34 minutes.
Aakarshi Kashyap also bowed out after a spirited fight against South Korea’s Kim Min Ji.
After dropping the opening game, Aakarshi levelled the match by taking the second before eventually losing 17-21, 21-18, 17-21 in one hour and nine minutes.
In the men’s singles, Rounak Chouhan rallied from a game down to beat Chinese Taipei’s Wu Zhe Ying 18-21, 21-15, 21-19 in a gripping contest that lasted one hour and five minutes.
S Sankar Muthusamy Subramanian, however, failed to build on a strong start and suffered a 21-11, 18-21, 16-21 defeat to Huang Ping-Hsien of Chinese Taipei in one hour and four minutes.
India also had mixed fortunes in mixed doubles.
Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra needed just 16 minutes to outclass Germany’s Calvin Devereux and Desiree Toepffer 21-4, 21-6 and move into the pre-quarterfinals, where they will face sixth-seeded Chinese pair Li Hong Yi and Huang Ke Xin.
However, Mohit Jaglan and Lakshita Jaglan lost 9-21, 12-21 to Malaysia’s Low Han Chen and Chan Wen Tse.
Eighth-seeded Dhruv Rawat and Maneesha K suffered a 22-24, 18-21 defeat against South Korea’s Song Hyun Cho and Jeong Na Eun, while Sathwik Reddy Kanapuram and Radhika Sharma went down 10-21, 19-21 to Thailand’s Supak Jomkoh and Ornnicha Jongsathapornparn.
