Surat: Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday termed as mentally challenged those opposing the efficacy of coronavirus vaccines made in India.
Pradhan’s remarks came after some Congress leaders raised doubts on the restricted use approval granted to Bharat Biotech’s vaccine while its third phase trial is still underway.
“Those who have mand buddhi (are mentally challenged) and those who don’t have faith in the scientists and power of India are making such baseless statements,” Pradhan said.
“These vaccines are a special achievement of Indian companies and our scientists. People have welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative. Some mentally challenged people will never improve, especially the leadership of the Congress, which finds fault in everything,” Pradhan said.
Pradhan, who was here to inaugurate the migrant cell of Surat Municipal Corporation, also defended the new farm laws and said they would bring investment into the agriculture sector and allow cultivators to sell produce at market rates.
Science and faith are incompatible. Faith needs unflinching trust while science itself encourages incessant questioning to disprove false ideas.
Entertainment unregulated. We the people, since Independence (a reference point as the beginning of Indian polity) have had a staple of controversies of every size, shape, fragrance, colour, feel and flavour. Controversies in diversity are but a natural occurrence. But We the people (including the media) find one in any and everything. The irony is that most of these controversies have been at best more entertaining than delivering any benefit to the “controversial” issues. It has only slowed progress. And then we want the Governments to deliver always and every time. Has this also contributed to India being a laggard democracy? Yes, it sure has.
For instance, in this case of vaccines; these are unprecedented times requiring unprecedented action. Now and then, at least, place full faith in our system. Remember, it is We the people who created this system. I believe a logic has been rightly applied in clearing the vaccines. The different rules for use the two approved vaccines indicate that great thoughts have been applied during consideration for use. My request to media is to encourage in keeping politics away from matters where it is NOT required. Like the ubiquitous potato in every curry, politics need not be an ingredient in every discussion. Opposition also does not mean literally opposing any and every Government action.
It is time We the people (and the media) changed the narrative. Laggards can never catch up.

And you didn’t think your BJP ministers were Mand Buddhi when they were touting cow dung, cow urine as covid miracle cures, and as protection from nuclear radiation?
You didn’t think the same when PM told IAF to use clouds to hide jets from radars?
Dr Gagandeep Kang strikes me as a brilliant academic, our version of Dr Anthony Fauci.
