New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav on Thursday urged the Centre to show “a little sensitivity” and initiate a dialogue with activist Sonam Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, saying compassion is central to Sanatan Dharma.

Yadav made the remarks after arriving at Jantar Mantar to meet Wangchuk, who has been on a hunger strike for the 19th consecutive day.

Speaking to reporters, Dimple Yadav said, “This will be decided by the people of Cockroach Janta Party as to when he (Sonam Wangchuk) will break his hunger strike. But we would like to tell the Government to show a little sensitivity and initiate a dialogue by coming here. We would like to tell the people of BJP to set aside insensitivity. They speak of Sanatan Dharma but which Sanatan Dharma survives without compassion?”

During her interaction with reporters, the SP MP also criticised the Uttar Pradesh government over the demolition notice issued to Mohammad Ali Jauhar University over alleged unauthorised construction on its premises.

Targeting the BJP government, Yadav alleged that it was using bulldozer action selectively and questioned its approach in the wake of allegations related to the Ram Temple.

Speaking on the issue, Dimple Yadav said, “There is BJP Government in power, it is a bulldozer government. It is bulldozing the future of students. It can move a bulldozer on anyone. But when there has been such massive theft at Ram Temple, their bulldozer got tired there. The question is, why did the bulldozer get tired here?”

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court observed that “the life of every citizen is precious and all efforts ought to be made by the government authorities to save the same,” while directing that climate activist Sonam Wangchuk’s medical condition be clinically monitored on a daily basis during his ongoing hunger strike at Jantar Mantar.

The Court further directed that any medical intervention required, based on the opinion of government doctors, should be provided.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia passed the directions while disposing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by petitioner Rakesh Kumar Sahni, who sought the Court’s intervention over Wangchuk’s deteriorating health.

While dictating the order, the Bench noted that the petition expressed concern over Wangchuk’s health and recorded that he had been on a fast at Jantar Mantar for the past 17-18 days in support of certain demands.

The Court observed that the petition alleged his health had deteriorated due to the prolonged hunger strike. (ANI)
