New Delhi: During his visit to Punjab Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi could have been killed by a drone or a telescopic gun, Union Minister of Rural Development Giriraj Singh claimed Friday.
Singh also blamed the Punjab chief minister’s office and suggested that there was a high-level conspiracy behind the “major security breach” that took place on 5 January.
PM Modi’s scheduled visit to Ferozepur Wednesday was cancelled after protesting farmers blocked the road leading to the city. The PM was on his way from Bathinda airport by road because he couldn’t take the helicopter due to inclement weather. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs termed it a “major security breach” that the PM was left stuck on a flyover “for 15-20 minutes”. This has resulted in a blame game between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, which rules the state.
A number of senior BJP leaders and ministers have expressed anger over the alleged breach, with the BJP also addressing press conferences over the issue. Taking to Twitter, Singh shared video footage of the Prime Minister’s cavalcade stuck on the flyover.

“It was not a coincidence but a conspiracy to drown the PM in the well of death. He survived by the grace of Mahadev. If there is a proper investigation at the highest level, then this conspiracy will connect not only to the CM office of Punjab, but their wires will be connected to the top. It appears that he could have been killed with a drone or a telescopic gun,” said Singh.
“The conspiracy can be gauged by watching the video. How the prime minister was stopped on the flyover. The investigation should be done properly and none of the conspirators should be spared,” he said.
The issue of security lapses during the PM’s visit to Punjab has taken a political turn with senior BJP leaders, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, offering prayers at several temples across the country Thursday for PM Modi’s well-being and long life.
Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi expressed “regret and pain” at the cancellation of the PM’s visit, but maintained that there had been no security lapse on the part of his government.
The state government has now formed a high-level committee to probe any lapses.
