Modi tears into Congress over AI summit protest. ‘Turned global event into arena for naked, dirty politics’

The summit was not a BJP event, Modi said in Meerut, adding that the protest by Indian Youth Congress workers at the India AI Impact Summit violated the dignity of a national event.

New Delhi: Coming down heavily on the Congress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday accused it of undermining a national programme days after members of its youth wing held a ‘shirtless’ demonstration during the India AI Impact Summit 2026.

“Congress turned a global event into an arena for its ‘gandi aur nangi’ (dirty and shameless) politics,” Modi said at a public meeting in Meerut after flagging off the Namo Bharat train.

The summit was not a BJP event, he said, adding that the protest by Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers violated the dignity of a national event.

“Congress should have remembered that the AI Global Summit was not a BJP event, this was the country’s program. It was a program for the honour of the country. But Congress broke all decorum the day before yesterday. Today, across the entire country, people are spitting on Congress’s policy and practice, but see the misfortune…the leaders of such an old party, instead of feeling shame, bluster with shamelessness. This corrupt policy of Congress is being condemned by the entire country,” he said.

On Friday, members of the Indian Youth (IYC) held a ‘shirtless’ protest at the venue of the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, holding T-shirts printed with images of Modi and US President Donald Trump and raising slogans against the government and the India-US deal.

Later the same day, Delhi Police arrested four Youth Congress workers in connection with the protest. A  probe is also underway to ascertain a wider conspiracy angle in the case.

Speaking in Meerut, Modi alleged Sunday that the Congress leadership is motivated by personal hostility rather than political disagreement. “Congress leaders hate Modi; they want to dig my grave. They do not even hesitate to insult my mother,” he said.

Adding, “One thing that gives me satisfaction is that in the Delhi incident that took place, all the allies of Congress have shown the courage to fully criticise Congress. I publicly express my gratitude to them for this.”

Modi also said India organised a global summit successfully which saw representatives from more than 80 countries. “On one side, the countrymen are toiling day and night to develop India, but right here in the country, there are some political parties that cannot digest India’s success. Just now, you saw that the world’s largest AI Impact Summit took place in India,” he said.

“Such a conference had never been organised before in any of the developing countries of the world. But the Congress and its ecosystem turned India’s global event into an arena for their naked and dirty politics. At the event venue, in front of foreign guests, Congress workers showed up after stripping off their clothes. I ask the Congress leaders: the country already knows you’re naked anyway, so what was the need to take off your clothes?”

Referring to the Budget session of Parliament during which he decided not to address the Lok Sabha in anticipation of disruption by women MPs from the Opposition benches, Modi said, “You cannot become Prime Minister by sending women MPs and occupying a seat through that. Have you people become so hollow that you are now pushing mothers and sisters forward for this? Congress has become a burden on the country.”
