‘Will make you IAS officer’: SP office-bearer booked in Mathura over inappropriate texts to bank employee

Lucknow: A case has been registered against a Samajwadi Party (SP) leader in Mathura after a bank official accused him of sending her objectionable messages and stalking her. The woman also alleged that Rajan Rizvi, state general secretary of the SP’s minority wing, promised to help her become an IAS officer through the “chief minister’s quota” if the party came to power.

Following the registration of the FIR at Kotwali police station on Wednesday, Rizvi was removed from his post and suspended from the party.

According to the woman’s complaint, Rizvi was a customer at the bank where she works and repeatedly tried to stay near her, making her uncomfortable. She alleged that he obtained her private mobile number without her consent and repeatedly sent her objectionable messages. Although some messages were later deleted, she said she had preserved screenshots of them.

The woman said she blocked Rizvi’s number and warned him against contacting her, following which he threatened to obtain her call detail records and use them to harass her further.

UP Police sources told ThePrint that the complaint also alleges that photographs of the woman and her vehicle were taken and suspicious activity was noticed near her family’s residence at night. The woman alleged that information about her family’s movements was being collected from security personnel and a cook. She raised concerns that this information could be used against her family.

City Circle Officer (CO) Ashna Chaudhary said, “Based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered and necessary legal action is being taken.”

On Wednesday, former state vice-president of the Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha Pandit Sanjay Haryana met the CO along with the woman’s husband and father-in-law and expressed concern over the incident.
