New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha, accused of “gross violation of rules and contemptuous conduct”, was suspended from the Upper House Friday until the privileges committee probing the case submits its report.
Friday was the last day of the tumultuous Monsoon Session that saw repeated adjournments by the Opposition over Manipur and a no-confidence motion which was defeated.
Chadha has said the BJP was trying to “suppress” his voice by accusing him of forging signatures in a motion related to the Delhi services Bill.
Two days ago, Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankar forwarded to the privileges committee a complaint by four MPs who accused Chadha of proposing their names for the constitution of a select committee without their consent.
Saying it was untrue that signatures and written consent were needed for the nomination of members to a house panel in the Rajya Sabha, Chadha threatened Thursday to approach the court.
“I challenge the BJP to show the papers that have the forged signatures as alleged. The Parliamentary Bulletin on complaints against me has no mention of forgery, fake signatures,” Chadha added.

On Thursday evening, soon after the Opposition’s no-confidence motion was defeated in Lok Sabha, Leader of Opposition and Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was suspended for “repeated misconduct”, which is also pending an investigation by the privileges committee.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the resolution for Chowdhury’s suspension, saying he disturbed the House when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was replying to the motion.
The Congress MP said this was perhaps the first time that the leader of the principal Opposition party has been suspended from Lok Sabha.
