New Delhi: Thursday’s prime time, as expected, focused largely on the Sushant Singh Rajput’s death — specifically, Rhea Chakraborty’s involvement in it or lack thereof. Chakraborty, for the first time, gave exclusive interviews to CNN-News18 and NDTV 24×7, while the big one, of course, was her two-hour interview with Rajdeep Sardesai that ran on Aaj Tak and India Today.
NDTV India‘s Ravish Kumar looked the other way and highlighted the government’s unwavering decision to hold the national-level JEE and NEET entrance exams despite massive backlash.
First up, Aaj Tak, which had earlier in the day run the interview of actor Rhea Chakraborty in which she spoke about her relationship with the late Sushant Singh Rajput, the last time she spoke to him and the numerous allegations levelled against her after his death.
On ‘Dangal’, anchor Rohit Sardana opened with, “Rhea Chakraborty has given Aaj Tak an explosive interview. We have asked Rhea every question that you had in mind, straight.”
The anchor then asked Supreme Court advocate Vishnu Jain why the CBI still hasn’t questioned Rhea. “CBI will definitely question Rhea because there have been new revelations in the case,” Jain replied, adding that the Narcotics Control Bureau is probing the possibility of drug use.
Actor Mahima Bakshi said, “Many things are coming out now every day in the case, this strongly defines that in all of these, some way or the other, even if not directly involved, Rhea definitely knows who is involved.” Sure.
Republic Bharat raised questions on the alleged drugs angle in the case.
“What is the truth behind the drugs angle in Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case? Did Rhea take drugs? Why did she order 2-5 kilos of drugs? How did the drugs reach her before the lockdown? What did she do with the drugs? Is it drugs behind Sushant’s depression theory?” the reporter asked.
“Rhea’s neighbour is also frustrated with her. Even her neighbour is demanding justice for Sushant Singh Rajput,” the reporter said, in what, of course, must be seen as clinching evidence.
Mirror Now‘s anchor Tanvi Shukla, meanwhile, opted for a rather unique prime time segment, where she interviewed Neelakantha Bhanu Prakash, the ‘fastest human calculator in the world’ who has just won the gold medal at the Mental Calculation World Championship at the Mind Sports Olympiad in London.
“When the definition of math education changes, everyone can have an experience like mine and excel in it. People are extremely scared because math is promoted as a science and not an art form,” said the 20-year-old math whiz.
“My bigger cause, from this smaller achievement, is to make this brain training a popular culture & to make people understand that math is an enabler,” he said, adding, “I am the first one in the family to have pursued math after school. My experience was to look at math as a way in which I look at the world around me. This is something I wanted to replicate.”
And on NDTV India, anchor Ravish Kumar continued his dedicated focus on on the government’s decision that medical and engineering entrance exams will be held despite India’s soaring Covid-19 numbers.
“Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank has given a statement that students have downloaded their admit cards and that their security will be taken care of,” Kumar said.
But, he added, students have tweeted that the downloading of cards by almost all students shouldn’t be used as an “excuse” as they merely wanted to check their exam centre and this doesn’t imply that they are keen to travel and appear for the exams.
“The government must pay attention to the point that by holding exams, it is ensuring equal opportunities to all the students? The Constitution of India gives right to equality and right to equal opportunity to everyone in the country. The government must say, after talking to Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, how many Vande Bharat flights will be carrying students to how many different areas of the country,” Kumar stated.
