In today’s featured cartoon, Manjul draws attention to the recent controversy around UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s ‘abba jaan‘ remark. Coming in the months leading up to the state polls, the CM had said only those who say “Abba Jaan” digested all the ration — a twin hit at the previous Samajwadi Party government and the minority community that forms a significant voter base for the party. He added that ‘vikas‘, i.e., development, was available only to a particular community instead of all until the 2017 election.

R. Prasad on the change of chief ministers in BJP governed states — five CMs were replaced in the last six months — in quick succession. Most former chief ministers have expressed that this pick-and-drop strategy by the party high command is part of the ‘BJP tradition’ of giving a chance to new talent.

Alok Nirantar | Twitter/@caricatured

Alok Nirantar on recent reports of Karnataka MLA Shrimant Balasaheb Patil, who initially claimed he was offered money to join BJP in 2019. Patil later made a U-Turn to deny his statement. A former Congressman, Patil was among the 17 MLAs who quit the JDS-Congress coalition, which led to the collapse of the government and the BJP coming to power under B.S. Yediyurappa.

Sandeep Adhwaryu also drew on the CM changes happening in BJP-governed states, indicating these were signs of BJP’s growing high command culture, so far associated with the Congress.

E.P. Unny | The Indian Express

E.P. Unny on the controversy triggered by an influential Catholic bishop in Kerala who alleged that a “narcotics jihad” is being waged by Islamist groups to endanger youth belonging to other religions in the state. The remark has seen political battle lines being drawn, with the BJP demanding protection for the bishop and the Congress asking the state to convene a meeting with different community leaders.
