The best cartoons of the day, chosen by editors at ThePrint.

The selected cartoons appeared first in other publications, either in print or online, or on social media, and are credited appropriately.

In the lead cartoon, Mika Aziz showcases how the Karnataka elections and their exit polls have taken over every medium. A ‘surprise box’ is indicative of the election result that most people have predicted – a hung assembly and a ‘surprise’ in store for BJP and Congress.

Next, Hemant Morparia presents a satirical take on our Prime Minister’s latest hobby of ‘making up’ facts. Throughout his term, Modi has been continuously been under fire for often misquoting facts and figures.

Satish Acharya brought up yesterday’s incident revolving around Nirmala Sitharaman, P Chidambaram and Rahul Gandhi with Modi ironically, as the cop. At a press conference, Sitharaman said this was ‘Congress’ Nawaz Sharif moment’ — referring to the former Pakistan prime minister’s ouster from public office in 2017  following his conviction in the undisclosed foreign assets case — and said that Rahul, who is out on bail in the National Herald case, should make it clear if he is going to act as head of the Congress.

Keeping with the theme of elections, Nala Ponnappa, in his illustration, takes a jab at how every politician who has ever promised water supply to his constituents. As seen throughout the country, ”roti-kapada-paani aur makan’ (food, basic necessities and water) is a popular poll promise.

Irfan Khan, in his illustration, spins a pun on Nawaz ‘Sharif’s’ name and talks about the recent episode of Nawaz Sharif admitting to Pakistan’s role in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks. This is the first time any politician has ever admitted to such an involvement.
