In the lead cartoon, Satish Acharya in Sify says the BJP’s loss in the UP bypolls is a win for democracy in India. Acharya suggests that the fall of Yogi Adityanath’s stronghold, Gorakhpur, is a reminder for the CM that the head priest is still the voter.
Irfan, in a cartoon he tweeted, pokes fun at the irony of the sealing drive currently being conducted in Delhi. The only way for shopkeepers to protest the sealing of their shops is to go on strike and shut shop, which ironically is exactly what the authorities want to do.
Sajith Kumar loops back to the UP bypolls from the perspective of the Congress. A diminished and politically weak Congress (represented by a small Rahul Gandhi holding out his hand for a high-five) is looking to join the celebration of the SP-BSP win over the BJP in UP.
Meanwhile, Kirtish Bhatt in BBC News parodies RBI Governor Urjit Patel statement that he is ready to drink poison like Neelkantha (Lord Shiva) to cleanse the system of scams like the one involving Punjab National Bank. Bhatt suggests that before making such promises, the RBI governor should first take notice of other pressing matters: like how much currency was recovered after demonetisation.
“Count the notes you got back at least,” a man in the picture says.
Finally, Karna in Tamil daily Dinamalar, deals with the recent Tamil Nadu budget speech. He implies that the government’s top priority seems to be in commemorating Jayalalithaa, while it is still unable to meet its own debt and people’s requirements.
