New Delhi: Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya has in his preliminary investigation concluded that a deeper probe is warranted into the alleged discovery of a huge stash of unaccounted-for cash at the residence of Justice Yashwant Varma when a fire broke out there.

In the documents, which the Supreme Court has in an unprecedented move made public on its website, Justice Upadhyaya has rejected Justice Varma’s explanation that the store room, where the cash was allegedly found, is always unlocked and can be accessed by anybody, indicating that the money was kept there by some outsider.

The report narrates the entire sequence of events with regard to the alleged incident, as well as encloses a video and photographs of the burnt cash, and Justice Varma’s six-page response denying the allegations.
