Agra: After 15 years of struggle, the family of a Dalit man, who was killed by three men, received justice when an Agra court on Monday convicted two of the attackers for murder and handed them life imprisonment.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 each on the convicts. The third accused was let off due to lack of evidence.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Suraj Rai told ThePrint that in 2007, Pappu alias Pratap Singh, a bicycle mechanic in Idgah of Shahganj police station area, had an argument with Sindhi, Jeetu and the third person, who were residents of Kheria Mod area in Shahganj.
In a fit of rage, all three assaulted him severely, leaving him critically injured. Pappu later succumbed to his injuries during treatment, the police said.
A case was registered under IPC sections 302 (murder) 304 (attempted murder) and 34 (crime committed by several people with common intent) and all the three accused were arrested, Rai said, adding that the monitoring cell and the police station followed up the case.
