Amaravati, May 13 (PTI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday directed officials to work with bankers to avoid cyber and financial crimes, as the state has lost over Rs 650 crore in these crimes.
During a review meeting on averting cyber crimes in the state, officials informed the chief minister that Rs 652 crore has been lost in these crimes until now, while victims made over 9.2 lakh calls to the toll-free number 1930 for help.
“Coordinate with the bankers to avert cyber crimes,” said Naidu in an official release.
According to officials, investment fraud has emerged as a major financial crime, while the CID crime branch has teamed up with the bankers to salvage Rs 116 crore from falling prey to cyber scamsters, it said.
They apprised the CM that victims are losing money to phishing, online, digital arrest, debit and credit card scams.
Officials informed Naidu that a state-level CID cybercrime investigation unit is working to avert cyber and financial crimes.
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta informed the CM that cyber police stations have been established in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Tirupati, the press release added. PTI STH ADB
