Shimla, Aug 22 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh is yet to receive Rs 1,227 crore from the Centre under the Jal Jeevan Mission, with the non-release of funds stalling work on 1,081 drinking water schemes in the state, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri has informed the assembly.

Responding to a question by Congress MLA Mohan Lal Brakta, Agnihotri — who also hold the Jal Shakti portfolio — said a meeting regarding the Jal Jeevan Mission is scheduled with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on September 1-2, where the state will raise the issue of the pending funds and urge their release at the earliest.

The deputy chief minister informed the House that Rs 6,395 crore has been sanctioned for Himachal Pradesh under the Jal Jeevan Mission for execution of 1,747 drinking water schemes. However, work on 1,081 of these has been stalled due to non-receipt of the outstanding amount from the Centre, he said.

Brakta also raised the issue of incomplete drinking water schemes in the Rohru assembly constituency, with the deputy chief minister saying approximately Rs 8 crore is required to complete 16 drinking water schemes in the area.

The department has requested the chief minister to provide funds for completion of these schemes, he said.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has made Rs 100 crore available to the department and a portion of these funds will be utilised for incomplete drinking water schemes in Rohru assembly constituency, Agnihotri said.

Brakta said drinking water schemes where work has been completed should be dedicated to the public without delay. He also demanded settlement of outstanding dues owed to contractors. PTI BPL ARB ARB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
