New Delhi, Sep 7 (PTI) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday said women have always been change-makers in India’s history and heritage, and taking the country forward.
Addressing a two-day capacity-building workshop for women legislators organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Faridabad, Birla said women have made remarkable contributions to India’s institutional framework as well as its spiritual, religious and cultural traditions.
“Women have always been change-makers throughout India’s history and heritage — from the freedom movement to nation-building, from the making of the Constitution to taking the country forward,” he said.
“From India’s institutional framework to its spiritual, religious and cultural traditions, the contribution, respect and leadership of women in India have always been remarkable,” he said.
Birla said women today have not only emerged as change-makers but have also demonstrated unprecedented achievements and leadership across various fields.
He said there was a need to provide opportunities to further strengthen the leadership capabilities of women.
“Both these aspects — empowering women and conducting capacity-building workshops for women — are extremely important,” Birla said, congratulating NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar for organising the workshop. PTI KSH DV DV
