Faridabad, Aug 1 (PTI) A woman allegedly slit the throat of her lover, a Faridabad-based house painter, after he resisted pressure from her to get married, police said on Saturday.

She was arrested on Friday night, a day after the man’s decomposed body was found in her rented room in Domka Mohalla of Anangpur village in Faridabad, they said.

Anita (33), who is from Satna village of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh, was produced in a city court on Saturday and was sent to police custody for two days.

Police said that during interrogation, Anita allegedly said she was pressuring Sadaqat to marry her but he kept putting it off.

On July 25, she allegedly invited Sadaqat to her room and gave him alcohol. Late at night, when Sadaqat was drunk and asleep, she allegedly slit his throat with a knife and killed him. She allegedly locked the room from the outside and fled, they said.

Sadaqat and Anita both worked at a gated residential society; he was a house painter and she was a cleaner. Both were previously married and Anita had been abandoned by her husband, police said.

They were sharing a room in Anangpur village before the landlord asked Anita to vacate the room after learning of their relationship, police said.

She then rented another room in Domka Mohalla of Anangpur village around 15 days ago, and Sadaqat frequently visited her there, according to the complaint filed by Sadaqat’s brother, Nazakat Ali, who suspected Anita to be behind the murder.

Nazakat alleged that on July 23, Sadaqat left home saying he was going to Aligarh but never returned. His mobile phone also became unreachable. When Nazakat contacted Anita, she allegedly denied that Sadaqat had visited her.

On Thursday, police received information about a body in a house in the Domka mohalla. A police team that arrived at the scene found the body of Sadaqat, who hailed from Rampur Shahpur, Aligarh district in Uttar Pradesh.

The investigation revealed that he had been murdered by having his throat slit with a sharp-edged weapon.

Based on the brother’s complaint, an FIR of murder was registered against Anita at Surajkund police station and police arrested her on Friday night.

“Our police team cracked the case within hours and arrested the accused woman. We are questioning the accused woman after taking her on police remand,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson said. PTI COR SKY SKY
