Khagaria, Jul 29 (PTI) A woman land surveyor (amin) was found hanging at her rented accommodation in Bihar’s Khagaria district, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident took place at the DCLR office in Chhotichak, which falls within Gogri police station area of the district.

The deceased has been identified as Barkha Rani (25), a resident of Maulanagar in Katihar’s Semapur area, and was deputed to Gogri circle for three days.

Confirming the incident, Khagaria SP Bhanu Pratap Singh said, “Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide. However, any conclusion can only be drawn after the post-mortem report, the FSL report and all relevant electronic and technical evidence, particularly Call Detail Records (CDR), are examined.” The crime scene was secured and inspected by an FSL team in the presence of a sub-divisional officer, he added.

The SP, however, did not confirm the presence of any suicide note.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident came to light on Wednesday morning when a domestic worker found Barkha Rani’s room locked from inside. When, despite repeated calls and knocking, there was no response, neighbours and the houseowner tried to open the door but failed, following which the police were informed.

Houseowner Naveen Pandit said police reached the spot and broke open the door, finding the surveyor hanging from a ceiling fan. PTI CORR SUK MNB
