Mau (UP), Oct 25 (PTI) A 60-year-old woman was killed on Sunday, and three others were injured after a man allegedly attacked people with a bamboo stick in Ghosi town, police said.

Citing local residents, the police said the accused was mentally unstable and suffered from seizures, including epileptic episodes.

The accused was arrested soon after the incident and is being questioned, they said, adding that police and forensic teams were collecting evidence.

The incident took place in the Kasba Khas locality under the Ghosi police station area at around 5.30 am, when Ram Avatar Sonkar, 30, a resident of the locality, allegedly picked up a bamboo stick lying on the road and attacked some people, they said.

The injured were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared Gulabi Devi dead. She had sustained a serious head injury, police said.

Ghosi Circle Officer Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari said police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the attack and took the injured to the hospital.

The three other injured persons were discharged after receiving treatment, he said. PTI COR ABN SHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
