New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) A woman was killed after being hit and run over by a speeding water tanker near the Jwala Heri traffic signal in outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar East area on Friday morning, police said.

The deceased was identified as Santosh, a resident of Paschim Puri.

According to police, Santosh was crossing the road near the Jwala Heri red light when the tanker hit her.

“The impact threw her onto the road, following which the vehicle moved several feet ahead and its wheels ran over her, killing her on the spot,” an officer said.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving information about the accident.

The tanker was seized and its driver was arrested, he said.

The body was shifted for post-mortem, while further legal proceedings have been initiated. Police said they are examining CCTV footage from the area to ascertain the sequence of events and determine the circumstances that led to the accident.

The driver is being questioned and the exact cause of the crash is under investigation. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. PTI BM MDO MDO
