Jaipur, Oct 18 (PTI) A woman allegedly killed her two minor children by attacking them with scissors before taking her own life in Rajasthan’s Alwar district on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place in Dantiya village near Kherli town, where Usha Sharma allegedly attacked her five-year-old son Mukul and four-year-old daughter Nandini following an argument over the girl going outside to play, they said.

Usha took the children into a room and locked the door before attacking them with scissors. She then allegedly inflicted injuries on herself, police said.

Hearing the children’s screams, villagers rushed to the house and forced open the door. They found the woman and the two children lying injured.

Usha’s younger sister Manisha, who was present at the house, became distressed on seeing them and injured herself by banging her head against a wall and the floor.

Villagers rushed all four to the sub-district hospital in Kherli, where doctors declared Mukul dead. Usha and Nandini died during treatment.

Manisha, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to a district hospital for further treatment.

Police said Usha’s husband, Amit Sharma, works at a private company in Gujarat, while Manisha’s husband, Ankit Sharma, is employed as nursing staff at a private hospital in Jaipur.

Kathumar Circle Officer Joginder Singh Rajawat and Kherli police reached the village and inspected the scene.

The bodies have been kept in the mortuary of the Kherli hospital. Further investigation is underway. PTI SDA SMV SMV MDO

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
