Ranchi, Sep 7 (PTI) Jharkhand is likely to witness widespread rainfall for two days from September 9 under the influence of a low-pressure area moving from the central parts of Uttar Pradesh to the northeast Bay of Bengal, the weather department said on Monday.
A yellow alert for heavy rainfall on September 9 has been issued for Sahibganj, Pakur, Godda, Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dhanbad, Gidirih and Bokaro districts. The same warning has been issued for Ranchi, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Koderma, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Giridih for September 10.
“The low-pressure area, which persisted over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, is likely to return to the northeast Bay of Bengal, causing widespread rainfall in Jharkhand on September 9 and 10,” said Abhishek Anand, deputy director at the meteorological centre here.
Parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi, have been experiencing light to moderate rainfall since Monday afternoon due to an upper air cyclonic circulation lying over northeast Bihar and in its neighbourhood, he said.
Pirtand in Jharkhand’s Giridih district registered the highest rainfall at 112.4 mm in 24 hours till 8.30 am on Monday, followed by Jamua and Birni at 87.2 mm each.
The rainfall is expected to reduce the rain deficit gaps in eight Jharkhand districts — Pakur, Chatra, Deoghar, Giridih, Gumla, Hazaribag, Koderma and Sahibganj — a deficiency between 20 and 47 per cent.
A deviation of 19 per cent is considered to be normal rainfall by the India Meteorological Department.
Jharkhand has recorded 829.6mm rainfall against a normal of 859.5 mm between June 1 and September 7, an overall deficit of 3 per cent.
West Singhbhum district has registered the highest surplus rainfall at 46 per cent, while Pakur recorded the highest deficit at 47 per cent during the period. PTI SAN SAN NSD
