New Delhi: The 74th Independence day celebrations Saturday were marked by an almost 90-minute-long speech by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Red Fort, in which several important announcements were made as well as crucial issues addressed — from Covid vaccine trials to the India-China stand-off.
However, by mid morning, much of Twitterati seemed to be talking about something entirely different — actor Sunny Leone.
The reason? P. Naveen Kumar, the man whose Facebook post is believed to have triggered riots in Bengaluru this week, seems to be a Leone fan.
An article by India Today, titled A Sunny Leone fan, a political aspirant: Know more about man allegedly behind post that burnt Bengaluru, scrutinised Kumar’s past Facebook posts and talked about his Leone fandom.
The story triggered a variety of reactions on Twitter — from many praising Leone to others trying to defend Kumar from the ‘character assassination’. As it began trending, several Twitter users, unaware of what caused the multiple mentions of Leone, wondered why her name became a trending subject on Independence Day.
Well, Sunny Leone is harmless and brave, didn’t make a career out of shaming others, she also doesn’t put bounties on others’ heads for responding to someone on Facebook but yeah, we get, what you tried to do there. Character Assasination.
But guess what? The joke is on you. https://t.co/fELTHjw9JM

There could be some recently married in the mob that rioted.
Some fans of Sunny Leone too.
And definitely some wannabe netas
So Rahul who are those rioters, who’s actions terrorised entire Bangalore? Has your OSINT desk run any digital forensics on their SM handles? https://t.co/VR9YQvBKyL

Go find American verbatim of Gender neutral adjectives
we are converting in an intolerable society day by day. Even a Facebook post can trigger us to fire anything, kill anybody, without knowing the facts behind the viral posts. It looks like starting a war of societies, religions, and diverse thinking. We should discuss the main reason behind these clashes asap or it is possible that we have to pay more in the future. In fact, when society should embrace Science and technology most, it embracing religious hate instead.
Can people who write these articles know English first? It reflects poorly on your article when you don’t know the difference between “actor” and “actress “.
