New Delhi: A 56-year-old lawyer identified as Virendra Mehta allegedly rammed his Audi into two rickshaw pullers in North Delhi Sunday. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries later in the day, while the other is undergoing treatment.
This comes weeks after a 17-year-old, allegedly drunk, lost control of his speeding Porsche and hit two young software engineers in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar in the middle of the night. Both the techies lost their lives. The incident sparked massive outrage, with the minor’s parents, as well as two doctors accused of changing the blood samples of the teen, being arrested.
In the Delhi case, Maurice Nagar police station received a call at around 1.16 pm Sunday about an accident caused by an Audi.
“Upon reaching the accident spot, the investigating officer found a white Audi in accident condition near the main gate of Ramjas College. Both the injured, Govind Sarkar and Ashok Das, were taken to Hindu Rao Hospital. Govind was later referred to LNJP hospital,” DCP North Manoj Kumar Meena said.
According to the police, Mehta, the lawyer, lost control of the luxury car. Later in the day, Govind Sarkar, 45, died during treatment.
Virendra Mehta, a resident of Mukherjee Nagar, didn’t test positive for alcohol in the breath test conducted at the hospital. DCP Meena said his blood sample has been sent for forensic examination.
“Further investigation is on,” the DCP added. The sequence of events leading up to the accident are yet to be ascertained.
