Kolkata, Sep 13 (PTI) The West Bengal government will organise a statewide ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ from September 17 to October 10, bringing together a series of programmes aimed at improving public awareness and delivery of government schemes and services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday falls on September 17, and to commemorate Modi’s birth anniversary, month-long Seva Sankalp programmes will be observed across the country.
An official said on Sunday that the state government has issued guidelines directing all departments, district administrations, municipalities and block administrations to coordinate in the programmes.
The campaign seeks to make government schemes and services more accessible to people, encourage greater citizen participation and promote the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’, he said.
The campaign will begin on September 17 with an ‘Ashirbader Pradip’ programme, under which beneficiaries of government schemes and their family members will jointly light lamps.
Lamp-lighting programmes will also be held at historically and culturally significant locations with public participation.
As part of that ‘Amar Swapner Bharat — Chitra Seva’ programme will be organised through the school and higher education departments, featuring speeches, drawing and essay competitions and exhibitions involving students and teachers.
During the same period, ‘Namo Seva — Ojana Kahini’ will use music and theatre performances to highlight initiatives related to public service and welfare.
The ‘Anna Milan Seva’ programme will be held at ‘Anganwadi’ centres from September 15 to 17, with emphasis on nutrition, health and greater participation in women-centric welfare schemes, the official said.
From September 17 to October 9, ‘Sebar Kahini’ will document the experiences of beneficiaries of government schemes through videos, reels, photographs and written accounts, with district administrations tasked with collecting the material.
The ‘Sebay Amar Jogdan’ initiative, scheduled from September 20 to October 6, will seek public participation in welfare activities related to the environment, tree plantation, health and education.
Eligible beneficiaries will also be registered at camps organised as part of the programme.
Other programmes lined up under the campaign include ‘Sebar Range, Desher Songe’ on October 6, ‘Seva Jyoti Kalash Yatra’ on October 7 and the ‘Seva First Innovation Challenge’ on October 9.
The innovation challenge will showcase initiatives in areas including science and technology, information technology, education, industry and commerce, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and sports.
Kolkata has been proposed as one of the regional centres for the event.
The state-wide campaign will conclude on October 10, the official said, quoting guidelines issued by the state government. PTI SUS RG
