Kolkata, Oct 14 (PTI) A special Cabinet meeting chaired by West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday adopted a resolution marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years in public service and also approved recruitment to 45,185 posts across various departments.

After the meeting, Adhikari said the Narendra Modi government has given the Bengali language its due recognition.

In 2024, the Union Cabinet approved conferring the status of classical language to Bengali along with Marathi, Pali, Assamese and Prakrit.

Adhikari also hailed the prime minister for his contribution to the development of the state and the country. “I pay my respects to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his contribution to the progress of West Bengal, Gujarat and India,” he said.

“We have adopted a resolution to mark his 25 years in public service,” the chief minister told reporters after the meeting.

Adhikari said the Cabinet also approved recruitment to 45,185 posts across various departments. Of these, 33,199 posts will be filled in schools, while 7,000 appointments will be made in the panchayat sector. The recruitment process will begin shortly, he said.

The Cabinet also decided to provide rice to workers of closed tea gardens during the festive season, Adhikari said. PTI SCH NSD

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
