Visakhapatnam, May 18 (PTI) In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call to spend wisely amid global uncertainties and rising fuel concerns, Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway on Monday launched an e-bicycle campaign to promote green mobility and environmental awareness.
The e-bicycles were handed over to Waltair Division by a private college and inaugurated by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Lalit Bohra here.
“The new revolution is electric, and this is the right time to adopt sustainable mobility solutions,” Bohra said in an official release.
According to the DRM, the initiative was launched to encourage eco-friendly transport, reduce fuel consumption and create awareness on environmental conservation among railway employees, passengers and the public.
He said that “Prabhat Pheri” awareness programmes on environmental conservation would be conducted using the newly introduced e-bicycles across railway colonies and railway premises during the campaign period.
Bohra said Waltair division remained committed to promoting green initiatives and expanding environmental awareness activities across stations, offices, railway colonies and other railway establishments.
The e-bicycles can run up to 30 kilometres on a single charge and are equipped with quick charging and advanced safety features, while also not requiring a driving licence or vehicle registration, making them suitable for students and health-conscious citizens, the release said.
Workshops and sensitisation programmes on climate action, waste segregation, cleanliness, sustainable practices and plantation drives would also be conducted during the campaign period, it added. PTI MS KH
