Bhubaneswar, Aug 14 (PTI) Senior IPS officer Vinaytosh Mishra will take additional charge of Odisha DGP from August 16, following the retirement of incumbent Y B Khurania, an official notification said.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved a proposal of the home department in this regard.
“After the retirement of current DGP Y B Khurania on August 16, Vinaytosh Mishra, DGP, CID, Crime Branch will remain in additional charge of DGP (Head of Police Force) with effect from August 16, until further orders,” the notification said.
Mishra, a 1993-batch IPS officer who was scheduled to retire in a few months from government service, will take over the additional responsibility to ensure continuity in the leadership of the Odisha Police after Khurania demits office on August 16, sources said.
“I must thank the chief minister for choosing me for the additional charge of DGP. It is not a personal achievement, but a collective responsibility. I will try my best to provide justice to the people by properly implementing the law of the land,” Mishra said, adding that cybercrime and narcotics are major challenges before the Odisha Police.
Born on November 3, 1966, in Madhubani district of Bihar, Mishra holds a BSc degree in Engineering and a Master’s degree in Police Management (MDPM).
His interim appointment, however, comes amid judicial scrutiny over selection of a regular DGP.
A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court, challenging alleged irregularities in selection of candidates for the DGP post. The apex court had directed the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) not to take a final decision in this regard till August 18. PTI AAM RBT
