Shimla, Aug 20 (PTI) The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Thursday questioned Dr Janak Raj, BJP MLA and former medical superintendent (MS) of Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla in connection with the ongoing enquiry into alleged irregularities in the implementation, supervision, generation and processing of claims under the HIMCARE Scheme, police said.

As per the vigilance the enquiry into the irregularities was initiated on the directions of the state government, during which vigilance found lapses and irregularities requiring examination on the part of various officials and other stakeholders.

“During today’s questioning, Dr Janak Raj was confronted with specific issues relating to the period during which he functioned as MS and the supervisory, administrative and financial responsibilities attached to that office.

“However, Dr Janak Raj did not fully cooperate with the investigating team during the questioning. His replies to several material questions were evasive, vague and lacking in specific particulars capable of immediate verification,” said an official of vigilance in a press statement.

During the questioning, a detailed questionnaire was given to him and he was asked to furnish specific information and explanations, the official said. “He has sought one week’s time for submitting his written replies.” After the questioning, BJP MLA Janak Raj while talking to mediapersons, accused the state government of targeting the opposition leaders and political vendetta.

He also demanded the state government to order a probe into the irregularities by a sitting judge of the high court instead of using vigilance. PTI COR SKY SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
