Faridabad, May 12 (PTI) Five vehicles were destroyed in a fire in Jawahar Colony, Faridabad early Tuesday morning that also damaged a house nearby, officials said.
The fire near the Sai temple in Laxmi Dairy Lane here spread so rapidly that it caused panic among nearby residents. People inside the damaged house escaped from the back door and there were no casualties, they said.
According to locals, a vehicle suddenly caught fire around 4:40 am. The fire quickly engulfed four other vehicles parked nearby. Residents attempted to extinguish the fire on their own, but the flames were too intense to control.
Sukhbir Yadav, a fire official at the NIT Fire Station, said the station received a call around 4:45 am. A fire brigade team arrived at the scene and began extinguishing the flames. After diligent efforts, the team brought the fire under control, he said.
Preliminary information suggests that many of the vehicles were CNG-powered, which could have caused the fire to spread rapidly, he added.
Tiles of a nearby house fell off the walls and an AC was also damaged in the blaze, officials said.
Locals alleged that there was a delay by the fire brigade and most of the vehicles were completely burnt by the time they reached about an hour after being informed. PTI COR SKY SKY
