Chennai, Jul 5 (PTI) VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan on Sunday sharply criticised the AIADMK leadership, questioning why its top brass, including general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, has maintained an “absolute silence” in the wake of severe poaching allegations and high-profile defections to the ruling TVK.

Addressing the media following a massive political shift where several senior AIADMK leaders and former ministers, including C Vijayabaskar and M R Vijayabhaskar, resigned their positions to join TVK, Thirumavalavan asserted that the opposition party has failed to effectively raise its voice against the “subversion of democracy”.

“So far, AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has not expressed any opinion on this,” the VCK chief said.

Thirumavalavan aimed at the AIADMK’s strategy of handling the crisis through administrative petitions rather than public resistance.

The VCK leader called the AIADMK’s memorandum to the governor, alleging widespread horse-trading and unconstitutional mandate subversion, a “half-hearted attempt”.

To a question, VCK chief Thirumavalavan said Congress, VCK and Left parties would fiercely resist any attempts by the Central government to push through the ‘One Nation, One Election Bill in the upcoming Parliamentary session.
