New Delhi: The Valley of Words Literature and Arts Festival announced the third edition of the South Asian Festival of Arts and Literature (SAFAL), to be held on 28 and 29 September at South Asian University (SAU) in New Delhi, according to a press release.
Now in its tenth year, VoW said SAFAL is being organised jointly by the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at SAU and Valley of Words, Dehradun. This year’s theme, ‘South Asia: Land & Water, Struggles & Stories’, will bring together writers, artists, scholars and literary enthusiasts for discussions, performances and exhibitions focused on the region’s artistic and literary traditions.
SAU, established in 2011 by the eight member nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), hosts the festival through its Institute of South Asian Studies, which focuses on South Asia’s heritage, contemporary challenges and shared aspirations, the release said.
According to the organisers, the two-day festival will feature panel discussions on works including Uttam Kumar Sinha’s Trial by Water, DPK Pillai’s Empires, Battles and the Making of A Nation, Probal DasGupta’s General Brasstacks: The Sundarji Story and Ghazala Wahab’s The Hindi Heartland. Discussions will also include Nishtha Gautam’s Hindi translation of Anamika’s Sita’s Veil, and English fiction works Colour My Grave Purple by Shehnab Sahin and Railsong by Rahul Bhattacharya.
The festival will be inaugurated by Michael Paul, Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum, Prof KK Aggarwal, President of SAU, and Dr Sanjeev Chopra, Festival Director of VoW. Author and former Assam DGP Dr Kuladhar Saikia will deliver the keynote address.
The event will also feature a cultural performance by the Austrian Cultural Forum, the release said.
