Dehradun, Jul 2 (PTI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said on Thursday that modern technologies are being integrated into disaster management in the state to minimise damage by accurately assessing potential threats in a timely manner.
Speaking during a state-level mock drill to review monsoon preparedness, Chief Minister Dhami stated that in a vulnerable state like Uttarakhand, disaster management is not merely an administrative responsibility but the government’s top priority.
He said, “Modern technologies such as AI-based early warning systems, digital surveillance systems, drone monitoring, GIS mapping, satellite monitoring, and data-driven risk assessment are being integrated into disaster management.
“This enables the accurate and timely assessment of potential threats, thereby minimising the loss of life and property,” the chief minister said.
He added that rapid response teams have been empowered to ensure swift relief and rescue operations during emergencies, and early warning systems are being continuously strengthened to ensure timely alerts reach remote and vulnerable areas.
Dhami emphasised that advance preparation, better coordination, and the proper use of modern technologies are essential for effectively dealing with potential disasters during the monsoon season.
Describing the mock drill as a significant initiative to further strengthen the disaster management mechanism, Dhami directed all districts to submit their review reports to the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority within 72 hours.
He stated that the state government’s objective is not just to provide relief after a disaster occurs, but to minimise disaster risk, ensure the safety of life and property, and establish Uttarakhand as the country’s most technology-enabled and public-participation-driven disaster management model.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Dhami also released disaster management plans for the state and for each of the 13 districts as well. PTI DPT MPL AMJ AMJ
