Uttar Pradesh under BJP is now riot-free: CM Adityanath

Lucknow, Oct 26 (PTI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday claimed that Uttar Pradesh under the BJP has become a ‘riot-free’ state.

Addressing the GCC Innovation Summit-2026 in Lucknow on Monday, Adityanath pitched UP as an ideal investment destination, asserting that law and order are accorded top priority and saying that the situation was the opposite of what it was prior to 2017.

The BJP came to power in UP in 2017, and Adityanath has remained the chief minister since, becoming the first CM in UP to return to power after completing a five-year term.

“Before 2017, ahead of any festival or celebration, riots would be triggered,” he said, adding that UP is now becoming riot-free, with police preparedness being tested through mock drills.

“Take the recently concluded Sharadiya Navratri, for instance. Did you hear of any riots? Riots don’t happen anymore as rioters think 10 times. Now, we have to conduct mock riot drills so that the police do not forget how to act and control riots if required,” he said. PTI NAV MAN KSI

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
