Kushinagar (UP), May 6 (PTI) A speeding bus collided head-on with a bus in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on Wednesday, killing one and injuring six others, police said.

The accident occurred around 5:30 am near a diversion at Patheria under the Patherwa police station area when the bus, travelling from Tamkuhi to Gorakhpur, was hit by a truck coming from the opposite direction.

According to police, several passengers seated in the middle portion of the bus sustained serious injuries in the collision.

The injured have been identified as Satish Sharma (30) and his brother Vijay Sharma (25), Meera Devi (34), Roshan Tara (27), Manoj Kumar (45), Rampali Devi (36), and bus conductor Veer Bahadur (50).

Satish Sharma succumbed to injuries soon after being taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Fazilnagar, officials said, adding that the condition of his brother Vijay Sharma remains critical.

The two brothers were returning home after attending a family function in Gagalwa village, while the other injured had boarded the bus from Tamkuhi, police said.

Locals rushed to the spot after the accident and helped rescue passengers trapped inside the bus before informing the police.

Doctors at the CHC referred two critically injured persons to Kushinagar Medical College for treatment, officials said, while others only sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalisation, they said.

The accident caused traffic disruption before police reached the spot and restored movement.

Station House Officer Dhirendra Kumar Rai said further action will be taken after a formal complaint is received. PTI COR KIS MDO NB
